What was a tragedy for Aristotle and what is it today? To begin to touch upon this subject we hold firmly to the conception of all arts being a mime. Creating a line of movement is equivalent to writing a line of words. In order to retrace our steps, our history, we return to the ancient conception of what a tragedy is. We will make use of the emotion pity which acts as one of the main components inducing catharsis in the audience. In the pentalogy PITY Iraqi Bodies re-devise Shakespeare’s play ‘Othello’.
PITY: Part 3 reflects upon the character of Emilia through a series of characters that inhabit the ambiguous space of being neither the protagonist nor antagonist of the play they find themselves in.
