PITY: Part 4
TALK: Ionesco's Theatre
Ionesco's dramatic works are part and parcel of what we today casually categorize as "absurd theatre." But what is that "absurdness" and how does Ionesco operate within it? By examining his early fascination (and abhorrence) of theatre a discussion will be suggested towards his use of language, objects and "puppetry" in order to attempt an elucidation of Ionesco's claim to "[c]reate a theatre of violence: violently comic, violently dramatic."
The talk is presented in conjunction with Teater Trixter's current production of Ionesco's Les Chaises (The Chairs).
